Important Fraud Alert

New Scam Targeting Area Banks

WHAT IS HAPPENING

We are receiving reports that text messages are being delivered from fraudsters posing as Mutual Federal in an attempt to gain access to your digital banking account. An image of the text is below. Although these types of texts are similar to what the bank sends out, they will NEVER come from a phone number, but will come from Short Codes 86975 or 86434 if legitimate. If you do not see this code as the sender, DO NOT RESPOND and contact us immediately.

Here are two screen captures (below) from the actual scam attempt. A few things to notice in these fraudulent texts:

• The phone number. Mutual Federal only sends texts using the 'short code' numbers 86975 or 86434.
• The bank name. It's spelled wrong in this example. 
• The URL. The link they're wanting you to click on is unknown. 

Here is another screen capture (below) from the actual scam attempt. This is the the screen you'd see if you clicked the fraudulent link.

The biggest thing you'll see here is that the fraudsters have taken great effort to make it look like a legitimate login window. But note the web address. 'mfbsidney.site' is not ours. Our actual login screen is at 'secure.mutualfederal.com'. Also, our legitimate page links are labeled: Enroll, Forgot/Unlock Username, Contact Us and Privacy Policy — NOT Privacy Policy, Contact Us, Forgot Login and Locations as detailed below in the fraudulent screen capture.

HOW TO REACT

Do not engage. DO NOT DISCLOSE YOUR INFORMATION, END THE CALL IMMEDIATELY and call your account officer or our customer support department at (800) 548-8138 to notify us of this fraud attempt.
 
Reminder: Never provide sensitive information such as passwords, PINs, or security codes to anyone — not even to us. We will never ask for this type of information.

A good rule of thumb when combating banking fraud is:

"If it seems questionable, question it."
